Prof. Dr. Michael Janoschka leitet seit Juni 2022 als Professor für Regionalwissenschaft das Institut für Regionalwissenschaft am Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). In seiner jüngeren Forschung beschäftigt er sich mit
(i) einer kritischen Untersuchung der Transformation von Wohnungsmärkten, insbesondere unter den konzeptionellen Perspektiven von Finanzialisierung und Nachhaltigkeit;
(ii) soziale und ökonomische Prozesse in Städten, die zur Verdrängung vulnerabler Haushalte führen;
(iii) Konflikte um die Nutzung und Aneignung von (städtischen) Räumen;
(iv) neue Praktiken städtischer und regionaler Governance, insbesondere hervorgerufen von lokalen Bürgerinitiativen;
(v) innovative partizipative, visuelle und audiovisuelle Methoden der empirischen Stadt- und Regionalforschung.
Seit mehr als 20 Jahren forscht Michael Janoschka vor allem in Südeuropa und Lateinamerika, in jüngerer Zeit auch wieder in deutschen Stadtregionen (insb. Leipzig, Karlsruhe). Er graduierte sich an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und wurde an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main promoviert. Weitere Lehr- und Forschungsstationen seines Werdegangs umfassen Weimar, Leipzig, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Quito, Athen und Leeds.
